These 3 murals were commissioned by Ogilvy & Mather and
completed in March 2011.

IMAGINE windows to another world.

These murals were mounted in 3 bus stop adshel at
different locations in Singapore. When viewed from the
front, these murals would blend with the background even
in their illustrative and studs-out form.

Working with the creative team, we worked out the technical
details and dimensions before I was given the photo
collages to sketch out and dot inked.

Each piece measures around 1.2m x 1.8m and used a total
of over 97,000 pieces of 1x1 plates.

These 3 murals were submitted as entries in the
Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2011.
All 3 pieces picked up a Silver Lion each and the Whale
also made its way into the finals in illustration for
the Design Category.

Artist side notes: This is surely one the more quirky murals
I've done so far. The sketching and dot inking process from
photo collages was quite tricky in some areas but I'm glad of
the final results.

I was commissioned by Maritime and Port Authority of
Singapore (MPA) to design a mural for Singapore
Maritime Week 2011.

The mural measures 4m x 2m and consisted of 115,200
pieces of 1 x 1 plates. Once the mural design was finalised,
I inked out the mural and broke it down into building
instructions.

Staffs, guests and families from the different maritime
industries were invited to partake in the building of the
mural and it was completed over the period of one day.

Singapore Maritime Week 2011 was officially launched on
10 April 2011 by Mr Raymond Lim, Minister for Transport and
Second Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The mural will be housed as a permanent art piece in the new
Maritime Museum when the construction is completed in 2012.

Artist side notes: It was great seeing all these people from
the maritime industries, young and old getting together to
build the mural. I hope everyone had fun!

This tofu tub on wheels is powered by LEGO® Power Functions
and remote controllable.

DR x BB TO-FU [okan] should have no need for worries if
she is zipping around within the speed limits (if case anyone
wonders why sometimes TO-FU characters have a frown or
look sad, it's because they are nervous about falling and
breaking their tofu heads...) :)

This is a very special collaborative project with the famed
DEVILROBOTS of Japan! It is likely the first time two artists
of different genres have got together to present a creation
such as this.

This project took us about two and a half years to realise
and it was finally revealed in November 2010. It was a
limited release and exclusive model only available by
commissioning, not for direct or retail sale in any stores.

Fans got to meet Shinichiro (of DEVILROBOTS) and me during
this year's Singapore Toy Games Comic Convention when they
collected their commissioned pieces. We had a great time
meeting the fans, taking pictures and autographing for them.

Although this model was initially for commissioned by fans
in Singapore and Japan, we hope to extend it to fans from
other countries in the near future (please keep a look out
for news on DEVILROBOTS website, their facebook fan page
or my site for any announcements!)

A huge thanks to all the fans again for the awesome support,
cheers! :)

Joey Number 6

This commission by JY6 Joey Yung International Fan Club
(Singapore) is a gift for their idol at her concert in
Hong Kong (November 2010).

It measures about 78cm x 32cm x 43cm (L x W x H) and is
made up of 6721 pieces.

It is constructed in the normal studs-up method with main
text and logo protruding from the block (on front and
back). The JY6 logo on both sides are built similarly
except the word Singapore, which is in SNOT (Studs-not-on
-top).

Apart from the centrepiece, JY6 also commissioned 4
alphabets each measuring around 32cm x 8cm x 32cm (L x W
x H). These 4 letters made up Joey's name and serve as a
compliment to the big 3D plaque.

Special thanks to;

such lengths to have them flown to Hong Kong.

I hope the concert went smoothly and Joey love these
pieces your club are surprising her with. If you have

Halls of Learning is a Jamaican based organisation dedicated
to empowering the lives of people through education.

By Marvin's invitation, I'm very glad to have the chance to
collaborate with Halls of Learning. I have designed some
portraits for the children to build in this year's Lego Yuh
Mind Jrs. – Artful Bricksters (for 8 to 13 years old)
programme.

All portraits are made up by four 32 x 32 stud baseplates and
measures 50.8cm x 50.8cm each. The only one that is
doubled in length is the Jamaican flag.

All were hand drawn and broken down into building instructions
for the children.

Artist Side Notes: Since my first year as a LEGO Certified
Professional, I have been participating in charity events and
doing pro-bono work that would benefit children or the
needy in ways I could.

It's fantastic to see such programmes for children like these
conducted by Halls of Learning and it is awesome I could
play a small part in contributing. I hope the kids will have lots

On 6 March 2010, PCF (PAP Community Foundation) officially
launched two of their centres to integrate the use of LEGO
in their curriculum with the support of LEGO Education
(Singapore).

I am very happy to be commissioned by PCF to design and
construct two signboards to mark the inauguration.

The signboard for Marine Parade Education Centre is about
295cm x 59cm in size (using 2694 elements) while the one
for Chua Chu Kang Education Centre measures around 262cm
x 59cm (using 2268 elements).

Two pieces of memento were also commissioned for the two
guests of honour Mr Goh Chok Tong (Senior Minister) and
Mr Gan Kim Yong (Minister for Manpower).

These two pieces of memento were created to be stud-less
and in desktop sizes. SNOT (studs-not-on-top) techniques
were used in crafting the mementos, including the coloured
text on it.

Artist Side Notes: It's fantastic to see the use of LEGO
as teaching materials in this pilot programme for the
two kindergartens. Together with the six LEGO Denmark
trained PCF teachers, I believe these pre-schoolers would
have a great head start to learning creativity, building
and teamwork.

We Are One

We Are One

“We Are One" is a CSR project by MediaCorp, CapitaLand
and LEGO Singapore. It was initiated by MediaCorp to
raise at least one million dollars for charity.

I am honoured to be commissioned by the organisers to
design for this meaningful event and I am very glad I
can do my part for charity to help raise funds for the
needy in Singapore.

For this event, I have designed a 8m x 5m Singapore
island with relief and 6 familiar icons of Singaporeans.

Singapore Island

This island relief consists of 240 baseplates and contains
close to 500,000 pieces of bricks. Over 440,000 of them are
2x2 bricks in assorted colours for sale as part of the fund
raising. The lowest point in height for this model is 2 layers
(2 bricks) high and the highest point is 16 layers (16 bricks)
high. The organisers have also suggested to keep the 240
baseplates self-contained and not built as one solid island
model. In order to maintain the strength and integrity of the
model, extra time had to be spent on the design to make sure
each baseplate are built with proper interlocking technique.
The final model would be locked in by the red border brick
frame.

A grid system had to be planned with layer-by-layer building
instructions produced for all 240 baseplates. Using the
print-outs, volunteers and members of the public helped in
constructing the Singapore Island over a span of 5 weeks.

The Singapore Island model also made it into the Singapore
Book of Records for the largest Singapore map made of LEGO
bricks (in terms of length and width).

The exhibit piece have been dismantled and all the bricks
used to construct the Singapore Island model were packed
into 3000 gifts bags. These will be donated to the
underprivileged children as well as senior citizens in
daycare centres before Christmas 2009.

One of our historical and colonial style architecture that's
still standing proud in front of Padang.

Changi Airport Tower

One of our most recognisable icon for both Singaporeans
and tourists.

Cable Car

This years-serving cable car will be remembered in years
to come as it make way for the new model.

Port Of Singapore Authority

One of the busiest sea port in Asia, built in microscale.

HDB Flat

Public housing that any Singaporeans would be familiar
with.

Merlion (redux)

A refreshed and updated Merlion model from one of my
earlier prototype. This redesigned model uses some of
the newer LEGO elements and includes a newly designed
wave base.

still viewable from this link.

Artist Side Notes: This project was primary challenging
due to the short time line we had.

Due to the big amount of LEGO materials needed, I had
only 5 days to design and finalise the Singapore island
model right down to the exact colour and piece count.
This is to ensure LEGO Singapore would have ample time
to order and ship the bricks needed.

Most of my time was to spent on researching for the
island model and the 6 icons. I had to give attention
in capturing the essence and all details possible for
the 6 iconic pieces, especially since all of them had a
limitation to fit within the dimensions of 36 studs x 36
studs base not exceeding 40cm high. I made new discoveries
along the way too during my site photography and research.
These are little details that have been easily missed even
though we have passed them by countless of times.

40 days were used in total for the research and designing
of the 6 icons.

In total, researching and designing the Singapore Island
with 6 icons took 810 hours of work in 45 days. Knowing
that this would help raise funds for the needy, I feel it
was well worth the time spent.

Many other parties also played a huge role in making this
project possible, they are;

MediaCorp
- For initiating this project, Hee Yah from MediaCorp
Productions played the key role of getting the event
rolling. There's also Monica who toiled long hours
coordinating between all the different parties involved.
Credits goes out to MediaCorp and all artistes that
promoted this event actively in the drive to help raise
funds.

LEGO Singapore
- For their generous sponsoring of bricks for this
event and donating all bricks after to every child
in the beneficiaries.

Beamy (photo frame bunny)

This is a private commission for a pair of birthday
gifts by a Singapore lady wishing to surprise her
friend staying in Australia.

These functional and sculptural display pieces were
customised in mind with colouration from the
birthday girl's favourite.

The coloured photo frames are interchangeable and
removable from the bunny for easy inserting or
changing of photos. A little tweak was added to the
bunny 'tail' too. By turning it, the head could be
made to rotate left or right.

Artist Side Notes: Thanks to Pearleen for commissioning
this tan and pink bunny. As the name (beamy) suggested,
I hope Ms Lim will be beaming with smiles when she
receives your gift. Have a wonderful birthday, cheers! :)

Bricks Jamboree

Bricks Jamboree was a mini exhibition commissioned by
Changi Airport Group. It's the first time a collection of
creations by three LEGO Certified Professionals (Nicholas Foo,
Sean Kenney and Dirk Denoyelle were showcased together in
Singapore and in an airport.

Some of my creations and models on display

This two month long exhibition was opened to the public and
tourists in Changi Airport Terminal 3 (B2 Mall) in June 2009
and in Changi Airport Terminal 2 (Transit Area) in July 2009.

Changi Airport Group also commissioned a LEGO mural
measuring 4m x 2m, titled "Connecting The World".
A total of 115,200 pieces of 1x1 plates went into creating
this art piece.

Singaporeans and tourists from all over the world were
invited to participate in the building of this mural,
which depicts the three main airport terminals and the
iconic control tower.

The participants ranged from adults to young children from
all walks of life and countries. For some, building with LEGO
elements was a first. The public and tourists infused their
time and spirit through the piece-by-piece and fun building
process. In retrospective, people around the world connected
and left collectively a part of them in this unique piece of
artwork.

"Connecting The World" will on displayed in Changi Airport
Terminal 2 (public area of departure hall) in November
2009 and will be housed as a permanent art installation.

Artist Side Notes: This exhibition was made possible
with the kind effort and time of many people. In no

iilluummii is a new addition to my Lifestyle series of
creations.

The spherical pendant lamp hopes to challenge the
perceptions that LEGO creations would have to be block-ish.

There are five configurations for iilluummii, each with a
different pattern and diameter size. Two differently
configured lamps could also be built into each other to
create a ‘double layered’ iilluummii. This pendant lamp can
be used as an individual piece and in a sequence of vertical
or horizontal rows to the preferences of the owner.

Artist Side Notes: When I first came up with the concept of
creating this piece, I aimed for the design to be a balance
of aesthetics while maintaining the simplicity. I hope it
would be a classic addition to brighten up the mood and feel
of any living space.

This plane creation was commission by Millennia Institute
for their students and guests for their school opening.

2000 planes were made and given out as gifts. With this,
the school wishes to inspire the students to reach out for
what they aspire to be.

Red and blue, the two key colours from Millennia Institute's
logo was incorporated into the design. Alternate models
were also provided to encourage the students to come up
with their own creations.

Color Easter

This mosaic piece was created for a charity event over 4 days in
Hong Kong. The picture depicts a hurdler leaping over obstacles
as a positive message to encourage Hong Kong citizens to strive
and move forward in the current economic bump.

Titled '齊心共同跨越障礙，發揮香港精神' in Chinese/Mandarin,
it translates as 'Let the spirit of Hong Kong radiate, unite as
one and overcome all obstacles'. This mosaic creation consists
over 64000 pieces of 1x1 plates (measures about 2.6m x 1.5m)
and was built with the collaborative effort of HKLUG members.

This mosaic piece will be auctioned off at the end of the event and
all collected proceeds will be donated to Suicide Prevention Services
(生命熱線) in Hong Kong. Apart from the mosaic picture, this event
would also be showcasing Nathan Sawaya and my creations (8
pieces each from both of us).

Kattie is a special creation made for TVB Artiste Kate Tsui
(徐子珊) at Color Easter.

Kate is one of the special guests invited for the event
opening ceremony at Metro City Plaza (Hong Kong). This
charity event and exhibition is on from 4th April 2009 to
13th April 2009.

Artist Side Notes: This miniature bear is made up of 195
elements. It is also about 25% smaller than NV Valentine's
Bear and Plimy (Kattie is about 15cm high).

It was built in front of a live audience within 5 minutes. Kate
also made a creation for me within the given time (a man with
hat) as an exchange gift. Thanks Kate and I hope you like this
bear specially created for you! :)

On 12 December 2008, Cisco Systems unveils the launch of
EPIC@SG (Enabling Platform Innovation Centre). With the
support of IDA (Infocomm Development Authority of
Singapore), EPIC@SG is designed to help RSPs (retail service
providers) build and deliver services over the Next-Gen NBN
(Next Generation National Broadband Network) in Singapore.

Joining of the plaque

A two-piece plaque (about 1.5m in length) was created using
studs-out technique for the launch ceremony. The name of the
centre was announced when Mr Wim Elfrink (Executive Vice
President, Cisco Services & Chief Globalization Officer,
Cisco) and RADM (NS) Lui Tuck Yew (Senior Minister of State,
for Education and Information, Communications and the Arts)
joined the two mosaic pieces together.

Frame for the plaque

A frame, symbolising the concept of a bridge (design derived
from Cisco's logo) and connections was built to hold the
long plaque.

Two scaled memento (about 40cm in length) was also made for
the guests-of-honour, with their signatures on each side of
it.

With Christmas just days apart from their launch, Cisco also
requested for 100 special Santa Claus (from my miniland
christmas collection) as an event gift for their invited guests.

Rover Mini

This is a minifig scale model of the classic Rover Mini
from the early eighties.

To keep the scale to the closest, I decided on a 6 studs
wide car frame after some photo measurements and
blueprint comparisons.

Despite the small size, this model doesn't skim on the
details. Over 200 elements are used in total for this
creation.

The tricky bit I suppose in creating this piece was really
the limited elements available in green. It also took quite
a while to source out all the needed parts to put this
together.

I'm very delighted to be commissioned to build a Mini. It's
an all time classic and one of my favorite cars. A big thanks
to Ken from Japan for this wonderful opportunity to share
your passion for the Mini and the chance to make this
creation for you. Cheers!

This is a special creation dedicated to the people who
survived and moving on after the Sichuan earthquake.

It's made up of 5 small models, each depicting a
simple scenario and message. The models could be piece
together to form the Chinese character 'Li' (when viewed
from the top) which symbolise strength, endurance and
perseverance in times of adversity.

Li (力) can also mean the drive or energy when people unite
and come together.

Red is used as the key colour here to signify vitality,
positivity and passion for life. White is chosen as the
base colour to reflect a new beginning, optimism and faith.

Share - Giving to the less fortunate

Comfort - Care for the elderly

Rebuild - Reconstructing homes

Encourage - Hearten positivity to the children

Artist Side Notes: Even after donating to the cause, I felt
I could do a little more to contribute as an artist in
encouraging the victims who have suffered. This creation
was made specially for the cause.

City Magazine is an established and Award winning Hong Kong
/China magazine which explores and covers culture, trend,
fashion, design, innovation and lifestyle on the local and
international scenes. This monthly publication is produced

Artist side notes: The first of the 2008 'Love Automata'
series is a minifig scale creation. Mixtures of Basic and
Technic elements are used. It measures 23cm in width, 10cm
in depth and 18cm in height.

The initial design had a clock with working hands, but it
was changed to 2x2 round tiles (with clock pattern) for a
simpler and more symbolic approach. I guess a non-moving
clock defines the phrase "Time standing still in that
moment of bliss" better and more befitting to the theme
of the automata (remember 'that' moment). To summarise,
this creation is about reflections in our daily lives and
holding dear those special times spent together with our
love ones.

The last part of the design phase was to simplify the
creation and enhance on it. Two key factors (for me) was
to keep the size of the automata small and figure out the
simplest solution to move the swings. A small flower bed
was also added to further romanticise the mood and feel
of the automata. Lastly, all possible gears and axles are
integrated (or hidden), making sure only the necessary
moving parts will be visible (the swings and hand crank
at the side of the base).

This is a special commission for Certis CISCO. They operate
the largest Auxiliary Police Force in Singapore and provides
protective security for a lot of esteemed organisations all
over the nation.

This modern City is an exhibit that measures 3m by 2m,
consisting of over 10,000 elements. It's a customismed and
fully detailed mini city with an airport, harbor, hotel,
shopping mall, apartment and fairground.

High end security cameras from Certis CISCO will be set up
to interact with the exhibit. Some features of the city
have been specially created for interaction with the cameras.
The harbor crane and airport engineering building have both
been designed to include LEGO® Power Functions IR Receiver,
M-Motor and Battery Box. They can be remotely triggered to
move using the Power Functions IR Remote Control.

Power Functions IR Receiver, M-Motor and Battery Box is
incorporated into the design of the modified crane to lift
and lower container boxes

Airport Engineering building's moving belt can be remotely
controlled by a Power Functions IR Remote Control to
transport the container

Some SNOT (Studs-Not-On-Top) techniques are also used
in assorted buildings and structures where details are
required.

Air Traffic Controller Tower with Slope Curved 8 x 8 x 2
Double/Inverted Double (used for airplanes) modified using
SNOT technique as the body

SNOT detailing to the Billboard made for Certis CISCO to
place their ad (their real ad shrunked and printed onto
sticker)

All the key buildings and structures in the City are
designed and created modularly for easy transport and
setup. Tiles and plates are used as markers on baseplates
throughout the layout to shorten the setup time with minimal
fuss. Rest of the smaller buildings are created in prefixed
sections for quick assemble too.

Hotel that's made up of 14 modular segments with lobby,
check-in desk and lift.

Shopping mall that offers a bistro, pizzateria, chocolaterie,
florist, bike store, record outlet, luggage store and pet shop.
The Shopping mall can be arranged in 32 configurations by
swapping around the shops

The Executive Apartment consists of 1 stairway,
4 apartment and 3 roof modules

1 section of the apartment and roof modules.
A taller building can be made by adding more apartment
modules

Airport Engineering building only consist of 3 prefixed
sections

Other than the interior of buildings, a lot of other small
details can be found in the City exhibit. They range from
vehicles, ferris wheel cars with working gates, fairground
pushcarts to harbour warehouse and many more.

The Certis CISCO City will be on display from 13 to 15
January 2008 at Intersec Middle East (Za'abeel Hall,
Halls 1-5, Dubai International Convention & Exhibition
Centre, Dubai, UAE).

Artist side notes: This project took 14 days to design
and build (acquiring and shipping of elements took about
2 weeks in addition). It's a combination of alternate
models from existing retail sets and designed-to-request
buildings to meet the client's tight deadline. A huge
thanks to the all the staff of Group Marketing and
Communications from Certis CISCO who helped out and for
commissioning me to build this.

This is a special commission for NCSS (National Council
of Social Service). It was created and glued as a ornament
centerpiece to kick off a charity event during this year's
Christmas light-up Ceremony at Orchard Road.

The Snowman was the first LEGO ornament that was put
on the Christmas tree by the President of the Republic
of Singapore; His Excellency, President S R Nathan.

CapitaLand Retail Limited, together with Community Chest
launched this charity drive to help raise funds for
underprivileged children. "Building for our future" is the
inaugural charity initiative that will run concurrently in
seven CapitaLand retail malls in four countries (Singapore,
China, Japan, Malaysia) starting 17 November 2007.
Shoppers who spend at the participating malls will get to
build a LEGO ornament for the Christmas tree. CapitaLand
Hope Foundation would then donate an amount for each
LEGO ornament built with selected children charities
supported by Community Chest as the beneficiaries.

Artist side notes: It's a real pleasure to have a chance to
contribute my small share for a good and meaningful cause.
My warmest compliments to NCSS, Community Chest,
CapitaLand Retail Limited for this effort in extending a
helping hand to the needy.

Honda Monkey Z50M (1967)

This recently completed 1/5.5 scaled model is a private
commission from a nice lady in Philippines hoping to
surprise her friend on his upcoming birthday.

She thought it would be a great gift for her friend who
owns an actual Honda Z50M and happens to be a LEGO fan.

This model contains 566 elements, measures 20.7cm from
front to back, 12.1cm across and 16.5cm in height
(without the display base). It's designed using both
Technic and basic system elements. Laser colour stickers
were printed for the seat design, logo, tag and base.

Curtiss-Wright J2 Fury

Curtiss-Wright J2 Fury

This is a private commission from a friend. The J2 Fury
is one of the planes from a computer game titled Crimson
Skies.

It contains 713 elements in total. The wing span measures
38cm across, 25.3cm from front to back and 10.1cm in
height when the wheels are not extended.

Laser coloured stickers carrying the insignia were printed
and delivered with step-by-step building instructions in
a PDF file.

Cockpit details

This minifig scale model is stuffed with details from the
interior cockpit to the exterior. Gamers might have
noticed from references and pictures available on the
internet did not show how the wheels work or how the plane
lands. I had to invent and incorporate them into the design
while staying true to the plane schematics without changing
the look of the plane.

Retro Rocket for LEGO® Singapore Road Show 2007

For this year's LEGO® road show held in Singapore, our
local AFOL group was out to create the biggest GBC
(in size). Everything was blown up in scale and we
have golf balls running around and through the exhibits.

For this event, I created a special sculptural piece for
LEGO® Singapore to act as one of the main pillars.

The Retro Rocket measures 1.65m tall and 1m wide.
Lego® Singapore provided all the elements (basic bricks)
needed for this creation and the road show.

It's made up of 16 different parts and pieced together
at the exhibit area. Using only the key colours from the
LEGO® logo, it took about 13000 LEGO® elements to build.

After some quick sketches and working out the colour
schemes, I move on to design the rest on my computer
using MLCad.

Working out the basic shape

It was tricky yet fun to design in the LEGO® logo on the
Retro Rocket because the body is very streamlined and only
28 studs width at it's widest. Extra care is made to make sure
the LEGO® logo would always appear clear from all angles
even with the curves.

One of the most loved brand and logo ever!

Another challenge was to design it with proper weight
distribution so the 4 fins can be sleek and thin, yet strong
enough to support the main rocket body without using any
internal metal frame nor glue.

The Retro Rocket have 2 small removable blocks on the body.
It's walled out to make place for a ball track to run through
it.

It is on display now at Toys"R"Us Vivocity Singapore.

Artist side notes: I also helped out in designing and
building some other themed pillar components that doubles
as product display stands at the road show. This event
marks the 3rd collaboration between LEGO® Singapore and
our local AFOL Group, S0937FG (17 members). 9 other
pillars for the big GBC exhibit were made at the venue
over 24 hours.

This is my second creation in the 'Love Automata' series
after Loving You Day & Night.

Artist side notes: This is one of the two 'Love Automata'
designs I will be creating for 2007. This creation consist
of Basic and Technic parts. It measures 16cm in width,
7cm in depth and 16cm in height.

The winged heart is supported by 3 pieces of 2x2 trans-clear
round bricks to add to the illusion of it floating above the
pedestal stand. Making the wings flap with the constraints
of the above mentioned elements and a 2 studs width interior
space (inside the heart) is part of the trickiest step in
the process of making the automata.

The other challenges would have to be the precise
measurements needed to have the wings move the maximum
circumference and hiding carefully all that's making the
wings flap.

Every day we share with our love ones are a blessing. You
don't always need a special reason or day to express your
love for the person next to you...or giving them a unique
gift out of the blue to surprise them!

Our lifestyle series kicks off in 2007 with our very first
'Love Automata'! This is a really unique and special gift
fantastic for Valentine's day, anniversaries, birthdays or
just to put a smile on someone's face. :)

All automata are put together carefully for you using only
ABS safe glue ensuring strength. The front sticker are all
laser colour printed for quality. Upon request, the sticker
can be personalised with both your names on the front;
alternatively you could always pen your own little message
or poem in the given space. All automata are numerated
individually.

The centre piece inside the big heart with a day and night
scene rotates when the handle is turned, hence the
expression; 'Loving You Day & Night'.

Artist side notes: This is one of the two 'Love Automata'
designs we will be creating for 2007. Automata have been
around for centuries. From early toys or tools demonstrating
basic scientific principles to more contemporary works,
automata have often been a marriage of artistic creativity
and principles of mechanics. Hence I can't think of a more
appropriate medium and challenge other than using LEGO®
elements to create automata. This creation used a total of
156 elements, consisting of Basic, Technic and Clikits parts.
It measures 10cm in width, 4cm in depth and 16cm in height.

This is the third new LEGO® City set I bought this year. It's
also the third city alternate model I have created.

Here's a car transporter created from 7900 Heavy Loader set.

The transporter can turn easily at least 90 degrees either side
even when the back portion is attached. There are quite a bit
details in this alternate model. I try to make full use of all
the parts available and one of the key detail was to have a
functioning stand/support for the back portion when it's
detached from the truck.

Fireman Gift Box

Birthday Present

Just like the Wedding Gift, these two commissions came with
same tight datelines (less than 1 week).

This lady wanted a special gift for her boyfriend. She had an
engraved dog tag made and want to incorporate it into the
LEGO® creation.

She eventually picked one of the ideas that I suggested. It's
a 2 piece 'vignette' box. The top part is a mini street scene
with a billboard (which actually is a photoframe that holds
their picture together), fireman (because her boyfriend's a
fireman), drain covers (just grill plates) raised pavement and
road (tiles of grey in 2 colours).

The bottom part have the boyfriend's fireman number
designed into the front. The space inside was where she hid
the engraved dog tag.

I managed to get all the needed elements to complete the
commission. It was designed and delivered in 2 days.

Artist side notes: The photo frame may look familiar
because it's modified from my Plimy (Photo Frame Bear).
A photo can be easily inserted by removing the 2 pieces
of 1x2 plate with door rail on the photo frame.

The 3 key points I wanted when designing the photo frame
were;
1. Able to hold and secure a photo in place in a simple
solution that can be easily modified for different
scenarios and incorporated into other creations
2. Easy for remove and inserting of photo
3. Maximum display space for a photo using only LEGO®
elements

What you can see now is the one of two frame designs
I shortlisted from the 8 different ideas I had originally
came up with.

Wedding Gift

Like the Fireman Gift Box, these two commissions came with
same short delivery dates (less than 1 week).

This lady have 2 close friends that's getting married in a
week's time and she wanted to present the couples each with
a wedding gift. It's meant to be a small display piece to be
placed at the reception table and a personal gift after
their wedding banquet.

I gave her a few suggestions and she went for the mini
wedding cake idea.

Due to the short dateline, I could only buy whatever needed
LEGO® elements I could get hold from a local toy shop.
The rest of the elements was made up from my own stash of
LEGO® (new mint parts from MISB sets).

Luckily, I managed to complete this model in time for her
to present it to her soon-to-be-wedded friends. Designed
and completed within 2 days.

When we know the CEO of LEGO® Group would be meeting
our very own Singapore LEGO® fan group, everyone was
totally thrilled and excited!

The fan group wanted to give him a surprise present to
remember this trip to our sunny island and meeting us.

A few ideas were discussed on what’s representative of
Singapore. We decided finally we should create a
merlion sculpture.

I am very fortunate to be given the opportunity to
design it with the great support of everyone in the
fan group.

This sculpture holds on it own without the need of glue.
It was designed in different components (head piece, manes,
tail fins, etc..) and would fit nicely with each other without
falling apart. It was created using MLcad before purchasing
the needed elements from Bricklink.

Total time for designing, exploring possible sizes,
experimenting different building techniques and piecing it
together took about two weeks. The final model was glued
(for safe shipping) and fixed inside a nice hand-made acrylic
case before presented to Mr Jørgen.

We sincerely hope Mr Jørgen Vig Knudstorp will like this
special present.

An icon of Singapore for an iconic figure in the world of
LEGO®!

Artist side notes: It was a real experience and pleasure
meeting Mr Jørgen. He is patient, humble, very friendly and
humourous too. Personally, I feel he's a great thinker with
good values and beliefs, not to mention a visionary too.

The evening we all shared was like a meeting of friends more
than a usual fan club meeting. All the best wishes to Mr Jørgen,
his family and all the people working with LEGO® Group.

It's fantastic to have a CEO (and boss too i'm sure for people
working with him!) like him that truly cares!

A simple piece of mosaic. This will be used for publicity and
as a promotional piece to show the general public how a two
colour (black & white) mosaic portrait could look like using
1 x 1 plates.

A sculptural display piece that doubles as a photo frame.

Plimy will be available for order in 2007 in white or grey
colour. Special requests can be made when this is available
for purchase; you may request for different colours or
additional customisations.*

The photo frame piece would have two different designs to
choose from. Both frames are made with maximum display
area and ease for adding a photo. The photo frame can be
easily removed and inserted in Plimy’s hands.

Nightmare before Christmas mosaic

A special present for my younger brother's birthday.
This mosaic was done on a 48 x 48 plate with only black
and white 1 x 1 plates.

Designing took half a day on the computer while another
half day was spent putting it together. Being a big fan of
Tim Burton's Nightmare before Christmas, you can
imagine how ecstatic my brother was when he unwrapped
his Jack Skellington mosaic!

Forester (dressed up version)

Birthday Present

details:

A commissioned job from a nice lady hoping to surprise
her boyfriend on his birthday.

She approached me after seeing some of my past LEGO®
designs and creations. I had about a month to design and
deliver the final model. Her boyfriend owns a black Subaru
Forester that has been dressed up with front lip and decals.
I had to design the LEGO® model base on 4 pictures she took
from her mobile phone. It took about 2 weeks to design and
2 rounds of reviews with her before purchasing all the parts
needed.

I settled for a 7 stud wide base for the car with a 6 stud
width top half. I felt 8 studs may be too wide for minifig
scale. I also squeezed in as much details as I could without
exceeding the budget I was given. Although this is a minifig
scale model, I used some building techniques commonly
found in the miniland scale cars.

The final model sits 4 minifigs nicely front and back. The 4
doors are streamlined to the car body as seen from front
and top. The bonnet, hatch back and car doors can all be
opened and closed with ease. The car roof can be taken off
to sit the minifigs. The front lip's rounded corners are made
by using two 3 x 2 plate with hole. For the final touch, I
printed stickers for the car number plates and the decal
found on it's front. Lastly, I added two minifigs that had
resemblance to the couple.

Polar Bear

Wedding Anniversary Present

details:

A friend approached me to design a present for her husband
to celebrate their wedding anniversary. She thinks he's like
a polar bear; cute, round and loves to lounge around. The
design went through 3 different stages of designing. She
also noted she would like a little 'love' reminder on the base
where the polar bear sits on.

I wanted to give this design a 'stud-less' look from the start,
hence why many tiles were used. The bear’s head was the
first thing I worked on before moving on to the body and
base.

After showing her renders from phase 2's design, my friend
wanted to change her idea to a sitting polar bear. Though
I had the option of modifying the design, I decided to redesign
it from the scratch again. The final design renders was
shown to my friend before I purchased the required bricks
for the building. I'm very glad both her husband and her are
happy with the present.

I realised the new LEGO® City sets don't have alternate
models on the reverse of the boxes like the other themes.
Just thought it'll be fun to come up with some alternatives.

This one's a parody, since we know it's called prisoner
transport. So just for laughs, it's prisoner's transport now.
(I ain't making fun of anyone nor meant disrespect in any
ways.. it's really just for laughs.)

All elements used as usual like all my other alternate models.

The idea was to make a craft sort of like an anti-gravity racer
in the game, WipEout. The fins on both sides can actually be
folded down to double as landing stands.

It's was tricky to construct something out of the remaining
pieces, but the yellow fins kinda reminded me of flying fishes.
That's how the second organic craft was created.

Can I commission you to build a/an _____?

I can build ALMOST anything that stirs your imagination.

There are certain themes, designs or creations that I
would not be able to help where copyright and legal
issues may concern. I would not take on any commission
work that may cast a direct or indirect negative image
to the brand and company either.

To be certain, please kindly email me what you have in
mind and I try my best to bring to life what you want
using the bricks that we all love.

How long would it take to design or complete my
commission?

This is usually determined by 4 key factors; complexity,
size, scale of work involved and shipping.

Designing a commission can take 3 to 14 days base on the
4 key factors. Construction on a commission could take 7
to 90 days. I can ship to anywhere in the world by normal
air or surface mail. Express mail such as DHL or UPS is
available too if you want your commission sent to you in
the shortest possible time.

I would not be able to take on a new commission if the
time line is too short and when I'm already engaged in
prior to another commission or event. The earlier you
can contact me with plans you may have, the higher the
probability I would be able to design or build for you.

I'll be glad to help you figure out or answer any of
your queries.
